Free Practice Profitability Assessment

Do you know what your practice actually keeps?

Most group practice owners can tell you what they charge. Very few can tell you what they keep. Grab your numbers, take 20 minutes, and learn how your practice makes money... and how to use it to fuel the important work you're doing.

Inside the assessment: your current numbers, healthy targets, and the opportunity between them

You've built something real. You're helping clients, leading a team, and making decisions every day that affect your business and your life.

But if you're making those decisions without a clear picture of your numbers... your margins, your benchmarks, your actual take-home... you're navigating without a map.

This assessment gives you that map. It's simple, practical, and built specifically for group practice owners.

Why I built this... and who it's for

A short introduction before you dive in.

Heard this on the podcast?

I joined Cecilia Mannella on the Purpose & Profit: The Sustainable Therapy Practice Podcast to go deeper on group practice profitability... what it actually means, and why growing revenue before fixing the structure underneath it rarely works.

Five things worth understanding about your own practice

The assessment works through five areas. Each one builds on the last... and the real insight usually comes from watching how the numbers have moved over time, not just what they are today.

Where You Are Now

Enter up to three years of data from your P&L. Revenue, cost of sales, overhead, owner pay, and cash position... with every term explained in plain English right in the sheet.

How You Compare

See your key metrics... gross profit, operating margin, revenue per employee... alongside industry benchmarks for group practices. Know where you stand before you decide where to go.

Where You're Going

Set your targets: the income you want, the margin that would make this sustainable, the cash reserve that would let you make decisions from a stable place instead of a reactive one.

A Plan to Get There

Choose from a library of concrete actions, organised by the area that needs the most attention. Revenue, margin, cash, owner time... the most overlooked lever of all.

Follow-Through

Reflection prompts help you commit to something specific. Because the information is only as good as what you do with it.

What healthy actually looks like... at every practice size

Benchmarks informed by RMA industry data (NAICS 621330) and our work with group practice owners. All figures are a percentage of revenue.

~55%
Gross Profit
range: 50–60%
~27%
Overhead
range: 20–35%
~25%
Operating Profit
range: 20–30%
~27%
Total Owner Compensation
range: 20–35%
~17%
Adjusted Net Income
range: 15–20%

Most P&L reports don't show the full picture... especially for S-corp owners whose distributions don't appear as expenses. Adjusted Net Income is the number that tells you what your practice is actually keeping after you've been fully compensated.

A quick note on benchmarks

These ranges are meant to be reference points, not rigid rules. Your results may look different depending on your payer mix, average session rate, clinician compensation model, owner caseload, and how your chart of accounts is set up. For example, a private-pay practice may be able to pay clinicians well at a lower percentage split because the collected rate is higher, while an insurance-heavy practice may need a different compensation structure to protect margin. If the owner still carries a caseload, gross profit may also look stronger than it will once more revenue is generated by associate clinicians.

This is for you if...

You don't need to be a numbers person. You just need to be ready to lead your practice like the CEO you already are.

You own a group practice and have at least a rough picture of your current and prior year numbers

Revenue is coming in, but you're not sure how much you're actually keeping

You'd like to pay yourself six figures without draining the bank account or second-guessing whether you can afford it

You've been told to raise your rates, but sense that's not the whole answer

You're past the point where gut decisions feel like enough, and you're ready to lead with better information

Three tabs. One clear picture.

A structured spreadsheet... no formulas to build, no accounting background needed. Enter your numbers; the rest takes care of itself.
