Bookkeeping & advisory for group practice owners
The financial team that turns unsure group practice owners into confident decision-makers
Running a group practice means juggling hiring, clinician compensation, scheduling, insurance, and cash flow — usually all before lunch. We're the bookkeeping and advisory team that makes the financial side make sense, so you can lead the practice you set out to build.
You bring the question. We bring the numbers behind the answer.
Practice owners usually arrive mid-question:
“I'm struggling to know if we should hire more clinicians.”
We help by modeling the hire in your numbers, so you know you're ready before you post the job.
“Which services are actually making us money? And should we add another?”
We help by tracking each service's revenue and expenses, so you can see what earns the most and how changing the mix changes your practice's sustainability.
“My P&L says I made money. My bank account disagrees.”
We help by connecting your P&L to your bank balance, so you can see where the money actually went and fix what's draining it.
“I want to pay myself a consistent six-figure salary.”
We help by building your pay into the plan, so paying yourself stops being whatever's left over.
And after we've worked together for a while, the questions change: which candidate should we hire, because now we know we can afford one. How should I structure compensation for the new clinicians? What should I do with the profit?
That shift — from anxious questions to confident ones — is the whole point.
Emily McNamara, Founder & CEO
Why I started Focal Point
Hi, I'm Emily McNamara.
Focal Point grew into a practice dedicated to therapists because of my own story. After having my second child, I went through the hardest time of my life. Issues from my past and present came together into a painful depression. Two years later, I had recovered and felt stronger than ever. Therapy changed my life.
But here's the part that shaped this company: I couldn't have done it alone. It was the relationship — a guide who knew the terrain, who held me accountable, who genuinely cared — that made change possible.
You already know this. It's the foundation of your work. We've simply built the same thing for the business side of your practice: a real relationship with people who care about your success the way you care about your clients'. Not a portal and a monthly PDF. A guide, so you don't have to figure it out alone.
Our team
The same dedicated people, every time. No rotating strangers, no starting over — a team that knows your practice and genuinely cares how it's doing.

Our mission
To help group practice owners lead with confidence: practices with margins that hold, owners who pay themselves properly — six figures, without compromising the health of the business — and financial decisions made with understanding instead of instinct.
We believe you're fully capable of understanding your numbers. Our job isn't to take the finances off your plate and keep you in the dark. It's to translate, and to teach you how to use your numbers to guide the practice, so every report makes you a stronger CEO.
Our values
Our vision
By 2034, we aim to empower 1,000 practices — and the tens of thousands of lives they touch.
Because when your finances are sorted, everything downstream changes: you hire without fear, your clinicians are paid fairly, and you get real hours back: evenings that belong to your family, a vacation you actually take, energy left over for your community. A financially healthy practice isn't the goal. It's the foundation for the life and the work you actually want.
Common questions
-
Our best-fit clients run group mental or behavioral health practices with 3+ clinicians, growing toward or past seven figures. If you're solo or just starting out, our free resources and Starter tools will likely serve you better than a monthly package, and we'll happily point you to them.
-
Accurate books are how you find out what's actually happening: whether growth is profitable, what you can afford to pay clinicians, and when it's safe to hire. We keep them clean all year and then translate them, so your numbers become a tool you use instead of a report you file away.
-
Mental and behavioral health practices are our specialty. It's why we know the benchmarks, the payer dynamics, and the compensation questions group practices actually face. That focus is the whole value: advice built from practices like yours, not generic small-business tips.
Our commitment to you
We'll listen first, explain clearly, and hold you accountable to the goals you set — the way any good guide would.
